We are a small but growing team of hard-working people who care about what we do. We love to roll up our sleeves, try new ways of doing things, and support each other so that we can achieve our goals. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
We are committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive community. We offer a range of family-friendly, inclusive employment policies and opportunities for flexible working arrangements to support team members from different backgrounds.
By working with us, you can support our mission to change children’s life stories through the joy of reading. To find out more about our current vacancies, and to apply, please scroll down. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us for an informal discussion.

At Bookmark, we have introduced an element of flexibility over working hours, which involves flexible start and finish times around ‘core working hours’ (when attendance is required) and within the limitations of the ‘bandwidth’ (the earliest and latest times between which hours can be worked).
The typical working hours pattern for a full-time member of the Bookmark team is Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.30pm (with a 1-hour lunch break).
The split of our core and flexible hours is as below:
Some colleagues with particular contractual arrangements may be unable to benefit from the scheme. We are more than happy to discuss this with you.
We are pleased to introduce our hybrid work model, carefully designed to strike a balance between the convenience of remote work and the vitality of in-person collaboration. Embracing this model, you have the flexibility to choose your work environment, alternating between the comforts of home and the dynamic atmosphere of our office space.
In this hybrid work setting, you have the opportunity to experience the advantages of remote work, allowing you to save valuable time on commuting while enjoying the convenience of working from home. At the same time, we value the power of collaboration and the unique energy that comes from working together in person. We kindly request that you join us in the office for at least two days a week, fostering a sense of connection and synergy among our team members.
Please note that our approach is adaptable, and circumstances may require adjustments to this model in alignment with the needs of our charity. This hybrid work arrangement offers a mutually beneficial solution, ensuring you have the flexibility you desire while also nurturing a collaborative work environment.
At present we expect colleagues to be in our offices for a minimum of two days per week.
We firmly believe in the importance of granting individuals the time they need to relax and recharge, and our policy reflects this commitment.
Under this policy, you will be entitled to 25 days of holiday every year. Additionally, we will grant you a half day off on your birthday, recognising the significance of this special occasion.
Furthermore, in recognition of your dedication and commitment to our organisation, after three years of exemplary service, you will earn an extra day, bringing your total annual leave to 26 days, in addition to all designated bank holidays. Upon reaching the notable milestone of five years with us, you will enjoy a total of 27 days off, alongside the standard bank holidays.
In addition to these generous leave entitlements, we allow you to buy or sell up to 5 days of holiday each year. This option is designed to empower you to manage your time effectively, catering to your personal and professional needs.
Bookmark offers a range of family-friendly policies including enhanced Maternity and Paternity leave for eligible employees, seeking time to support their families during the early stages of parenthood.
To facilitate your work-fromhome experience, we will provide you with all the essential tools and equipment required, including a computer screen and any other necessary IT peripherals. Our goal is to create an environment that promotes your productivity and allows you to work seamlessly from the comfort of your home.
You have access to hot and cold drinks when you work in the office, which are free of charge. There is also a fruit bowl too.
Company events play a super important role in making work more fun and friendly, which is why we set aside a budget of £150 per employee per year for them! These events, whether they're a casual picnic, a teambuilding workshop, or a holiday party, bring employees together outside the regular work setting. They create a chance for everyone to relax, get to know each other better and develop as teams.
We view training and development as invaluable repositories of knowledge and skills that we provide to our employees. Whether it involves mastering new software, refining communication skills, or honing teamwork abilities, these opportunities inject excitement into our work.
Employees are entitled to 5 days paid compassionate leave per year.
We offer two weeks of paid parental bereavement leave. We believe that supporting our team members when they need it the most is not just a responsibility, but a heartfelt commitment.
This paid leave provides the necessary time and space for our employees to cope with their loss, spend time with their loved ones, and heal.
We offer a Sabbatical Leave policy. If you've been with us for a while and need some time off to recharge, explore the world, or simply relax, you can take a sabbatical. During this time, you can step away from work without worrying about your job. It's our way of supporting your personal growth and well-being.
To qualify for this you need to have completed three years of continuous service and are entitled to take up to 6 weeks leave.
We are proud that our team are so passionate about helping children learn to read and support all colleagues who’d like to volunteer with Bookmark. Below are some guidelines about being a Bookmark volunteer as a charity employee:
We're proud to say that our salary is competitive. We've done our homework and made sure that your hard work and dedication are recognised and rewarded. Our pay matches up with and surpasses other charities, and even with the world of non-charitable London based organisations.
Your hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed, and we believe in celebrating your achievements. With our bonus scheme, your success directly translates into extra rewards. We want to encourage and appreciate your outstanding efforts, making sure you know how valued you are here.
Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is here to help you when you need it most. It's like having a trusted friend to talk to. If you're going through personal or work challenges, our EAP offers confidential counselling, mental health services, and useful resources. Whether it's stress, family concerns, financial troubles, or anything else, we're here to support you. Your well-being matters.
Our matched pension scheme is a fantastic benefit. When you put in a portion of your salary (let's say 5%) into your pension scheme, we're right there with you, matching that amount with another 5%!
